18 January 2008 - Simon Cowell has been left "shocked" after police found a bug in his dressing room it was revealed today (18.01.08).
Police were called to Manchester's Palace Theatre when the bug was found under a table after it interfered with audio and visual equipment used in filming the audition process of the 'Britain's Got Talent'.
Judge Simon Cowell said: "I am shocked at the extent to which people will go to get secrets."
A show spokeswoman added: "I really don't know what they were hoping to find out. Most people just wait for the show.
"We'd had sound problems all day because the device uses the same frequency as our internal talkback system."
Staff at the theatre had noticed two people "acting strangely" during the second day of auditions, but when approached, they claimed to be local journalists.
After spotting one man, who appeared to be listening to a device in their car outside the theatre, police questioned 45-year-old Thomas Dunn and arrested him for an "unconnected speeding offence".
A statement from Greater Manchester Police read: "While officers were at the theatre investigating this incident, they were asked by theatre management to advise a 45-year-old man that he would be ejected because he had unauthorised access.
"The man's details were checked and he was arrested in connection with an unrelated speeding offence."
Last year, opera singer Paul Potts won the ITV talent show, and has since performed at the Royal Variety Show and released a hit album.
