Winter Jam appearance in Indiana

Winter Jam’s lineup is nothing if not varied – music from hard rock to pop to rap, and even something for the football fans.

The advertised lineup for the Christian concert, which came to Roberts Stadium Thursday night, included American Idol fifth-season finalist Mandisa, NewSong, Skillet, BarlowGirl and Steven Curtis Chapman, in that order.

Mandisa also generated strong crowd reaction.

In a night filled with Christian testimony and prayers, Mandisa offered one of the most memorable faith messages.

She told of being humiliated by American Idol Simon Cowell’s comments about her weight while she was a contestant on the show. She also told about going back to Cowell later and offering her forgiveness for his televised comments.

“It was one of the most powerful moments of my life,” she said of that encounter.

The crowd cheered when Mandisa told them that beauty comes from being one of God’s creations, not from having a petite figure.

“We need to start telling the world what true beauty is,” she said.

In a strong, soulful voice Mandisa offered a three-song set that included “Only the World,” “God Speaking” and “Shackles.”
