"American Idol" is a long way from karaoke night at Oddfellows Rest.

"It really hasn't sunk in yet," said "American Idol" hopeful Joanne Borgella last night while taking a break from rehearsals in Hollywood, Calif. "Sometimes I just have to pinch myself. I can't believe I'm doing this."

Borgella beat out more than 100,000 contestants to reach the top 24; on Wednesday, she will be one of a dozen female singers hoping to survive another week in the competition.

Born and raised on Long Island, Borgella has lived in Hoboken for about four years.

"I was going to school at FIT (Fashion Institute of Technology), and my friend Jessica said, 'We should be roommates! Let's move to Hoboken!' And I was like, 'What's Hoboken?' And I visited it and I never left. It's just outstanding."
