Contestants Talk About Celebrity Comparisons

Making the top twenty-four on American Idol can be a life-changing experience for a young singer. Many contestants find themselves in the spotlight for the first time, and they find themselves being compared to celebrities.

On American Idol, Colton Berry’s resemblance to Ellen DeGeneres became a source of conversation. In a conference call after his elimination, Colton said, “You know what, people have been saying it for years. You know what, I’m one of her biggest fans. I’ve always been her fan, and so you know, one day I kind of looked in the mirror and maybe everyone’s right, maybe I do really look like Ellen, so I figured I might as well embrace it.”
