FAIRBORN — America's current country-pop sweetheart, Carrie Underwood, brought her first headline arena tour to town Thursday, March 27, selling out Wright State University's Ervin J. Nutter Center.

The 90-minute set, named for Underwood' recently released sophomore album, "Carnival Ride," felt a little like getting stuck at the top of a Ferris wheel. It went up, and it didn't come back down until more than 15 songs and a couple of costume changes later, when she finally slowed things down a bit for a wistful rendition of her self-penned "Don't Forget to Remember Me."

But then it went right back up again, held aloft by Underwood's soaring vocals that rival any so-called power-pop balladeer in recent memory. Only Underwood, Oklahoma native that she is, chooses to wrap her voice around country tunes.
