Idol News - 8/16/08

Hello all. Came across some idol news I thought might be of interest. Here goes:


Clay Aiken and his surrogate/friend Jaymes Foster are the proud new parents of a healthy baby boy. His name is Parker Foster Aiken. No real details about the weight and length but the amazing part is he was born on 8/08/08. Seems that Clay is also returning to the play "Spamalot" for a few months. When he was in it before, ticket sales soared but since he has left they are not doing so well so hopefully his return will once again bring back the people. Anyhoo, congrats to the new parents!


The American Idol group was not so thrilled with the audition process in Puerto Rico. Seems only about 300 people showed up to audition. AI is keeping mum on this disappointment overall. It will be interesting to see how the show goes for this area of auditions when AI comes back in January 2009.


For the David Hernandez fans some good news. He joins Constantine Maroulis and Vonzell Solomon in a week long appearance at the Nikko Hotel in San Francisco. They have shows that feature former idol contestants which is great as many get to see favorites who did not win the title or get to go on tour. As you may remember, David was eliminated in 12th place. In a recent interview, he says he is grateful to AI for giving him a chance and feels his elimination was due to people not voting for him because of his past occupation as a stripper. He is not bitter on this since his appearances on AI did open doors for him. He currently is recording and hopes to put out an album in the near future. Another plus is later this year, he will be touring with Justin Guarini and other "idol" alums in "Idols At Christmas". Best wishes to him as being one of his fans personally I am so looking forward to getting music from this talented guy.


For the country fans, seems this year's newly crowned winner of Nashville Star was once a contestant on American Idol. Melissa Lawson made it to the top 75 the year she tried out. She is very happy now knowing she won Nashville Star and her voice will finally be heard as John Rich is producing her album and plans to get it out quickly while the iron is hot so to speak. Speaking of John Rich, I am not sure if any of you know he has a show on CMT called "Gone Country". It is a great show that features singers from other genres of music and actor and actresses who are making a stab at being country artists. Last season Julio Iglesias Jr. won the event and had a song come out that John produced. This season once again features some odd choices to make it in country music. They are as follows:

Sebastian Bach - lead singer of the group Skid Row
Chris Kirkpatrick - singer with the group N'Sync which sold over 56 million albums worldwide during their reign
Jermaine Jackson - singer and brother of the group the Jackson 5 who had great success during their reign
Sean Young - actresss who appeared in such movies as "No Way Out", "Blade Runner" and "Ace Ventura"
Lorenzo Lamas - television star best know for his show "Falcon Crest"
Irene Cara - singer/actress who has garnered many awards due to her appearance and singing in the movie "Fame"
Mikalah Gordon - 12th place finish on our favorite show American Idol during Season 4

The new season started on August 15th on CMT and it does look like it will be quite interesting with these people.
